Julia Le Dref
Installation - Church of the Celestins
Born in 2000, Julia Le Dref, a visual artist and recent graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de Dijon (ENSAD), lives and works in Paris.
"Through the practice of metal, ceramics, drawing and writing, I tell the story of a world where, of the original house, only a cracked brick wall remains; therefore, flourishing can only happen on a foundation of ruins."
The environment that Julia Le Dref creates is rooted in elements that were once familiar but have become inhospitable because they have been traversed by catastrophes and disruptions, leaving only uninhabitable and disembodied remains.
Her work offers a vision of a latent domestic space, a reflection of a world where notions of security and stability falter in the face of climatic, social and geopolitical crises.
"I think I know what I have to do with all these sculptures that seem to, or refer to, a domestic space: the desire to put a book on this shelf, to lie down on the bed, to sit down at the table, to draw the curtains... but the gestures are lost in the face of disillusionment, this space no longer exists, or never existed."
