Supported by the DRAC PACA (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region) as part of its Culture and Social Connection program, this project celebrates cultural diversity and encounters through art. It creates a shared space for expression, where residents from diverse backgrounds collaborate to create a collective, poetic, and moving work. An ambitious and profoundly human project, Le Chant des oiseaux (The Song of the Birds) highlights amateur creation, social connection, and the joy of working together, while maintaining high artistic standards.

The workshop project brought together about fifteen residents from priority neighborhoods in Avignon, particularly from the Croix des Oiseaux neighborhood, accompanied by three partner organizations: the Croix des Oiseaux Social Centre, the Pierre Valdo Association and La Parenthèse.

Led by Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust, visual artist, performer, choreographer and designer, assisted in choreography by Mallaury Scala, and with an original sound creation by Paul Lajus, the participants took part in a week of workshops combining costume making, vocal experimentation and choreographic research.

The costumes created during these workshops are primarily made from recycled clothing, thanks to a donation from Le Relais, which generously granted access to the sorting center in Avignon. This eco-responsible and socially conscious approach has given the project an additional dimension: that of creative reuse, transforming everyday materials into living and poetic works of art.

Two workshops were held simultaneously: while one group worked on costume design, the other explored movement and performance. This dialogue between costume designers and dancers fostered the creation of collaborative duos, uniting gestures, materials, and sounds. The first day was dedicated to sound recording: a moment of encounter and exchange where the two groups experimented with collective vocal scores, shared words, and forged connections. From this evocative material, Paul Lajus composed the original soundtrack that accompanied the performance.

The result of this work was presented during a public performance entitled The Song of the Birds at the Maison Jean Vilar, which brought together more than a hundred visitors.
